About Us

As a subsidiary of the University of British Columbia Alma Mater Society, the UBC Finance Club was constituted in 1989 and remains one of the UBC Sauder School of Business's largest and oldest student clubs.

The UBC Finance Club has always been one of the key liaisons between the financial industry and its members. Hosting annual events such as the UBCFC Wine and Cheese and the UBC stock game, the UBC Finance Club has established these events as must-attend events in the calendar.

2009/2010 Executives

CEO
Peter Stein
Peter Stein is a native of Vancouver, and strives to bring his experience in organizational leadership and entrepreneurship to the UBC Finance Club for the benefit of all its stakeholders. Through founding many organizations and leading many others, Peter has built a strong portfolio of expertise and hopes to execute on that experience towards the initiation of a best practices documentation, accountability, and focus in the UBC Finance Club. Outside of academics Peter has managed an investment portfolio that has successfully funded his education, and enjoys reading economic and financial classics. In recreation Peter spends most of his time at the rink honing his skills while playing on the returning western Canadian ASHL champions.

Andrew Park
Andrew is entering his second year of studies at the Sauder School of Business this fall. He joined the club in his first year at UBC to learn more about the various facets of commerce. Andrew considers himself a philanthropist without money; he has volunteered all across Canada and has even ventured down to Costa Rica to teach children in orphanages. Andrew has a passion for languages and culture and is currently pursuing minors in both French and Spanish alongside his Bachelor of Commerce. He hopes to gain further exposure to the world of finance through the UBCFC and believes the challenges he will face will help him overcome the obstacles of his chosen career.

Andrew is moving on to his second year as a Commerce student with an interest in specializing in Finance. He joined Finance Club to further develop the link between students and industry professionals in order to enrich the overall learning experience at UBC. With a strong passion for involvement, music, and food, he hopes to drive Finance Club's success further in anyway possible.

Amardeep Chandi
Amardeep is a second year Commerce student pursuing a major Finance and a minor in Economics. With over two years of experience as an entrepreneur in the financial services industry, he has continually challenged himself at a young age to develop a diverse set of skills. His background as an athlete helped develop his leadership skills and influenced his entrepreneurial spirit. Amardeep has completed his Canadian Securities Course, LLQP, and is planning on acquiring his CFA designation to supplement his growing knowledge as an investor. He is passionate about learning more about the competitive world of investment banking and asset management. As VP External, Amardeep is determined to build and strengthen relationships with the Finance industry in order to have a truly historic year with UBC Finance Club.

Elaine Choi
Elaine Choi is currently in her third year at Sauder pursuing a major in Finance. She joined the Finance Club this year eager to learn more about the industry and its various specializations. Ever since a young age, Elaine has always pursued leadership positions and continually challenges herself to go beyond her own expectations. Her focus this year is to help organize events with the goal in mind of attracting passionate industry professionals who can then shed their knowledge onto the members of this club. Furthermore, her purpose is to help build and maintain strong relationships with UBC Finance Club Partners. Elaine is an outgoing and ambitious individual who loves meeting new people and socializing. She hopes to attain her CFA Level 1 certificate this coming summer to further her interest in Finance. Her hobbies include dancing, listening to all different genres of music, and working out.

Flora Ma
Flora is a third year commerce student with interests in finance, marketing, and real estate. She is outgoing, and enjoys meeting new people. By joining the team, she hopes to create an atmosphere where students can participate to gain industry knowledge and network with professionals. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym, playing piano, and spending time with friends. Flora envisions herself being a great mother in the future while maintaining a successful career.

Vincent Chan
Vincent is a 4th year Environmental Engineering student with an interest in investing, entrepreneurship, and marketing. Despite his engineering background, his interest in business has led him to pursue his own marketing firm 3ntrance. He joined the Finance Club to gain exposure to the financial industry and its people, while helping finance students reach their career aspirations. Vincent is a keen motor-sports fan, racquet-sports junkie, audiophile, and photographer. In his spare time, Vincent enjoys reading, thinking, surfing Wikipedia, and meeting new people.


Manager: Investment Banking Competition
Dipak Bipinchandra
Dipak Bipinchandra is from Malaysia, where his father founded a textiles business many years ago. His interest in finance resulted from his extensive involvement with his family business at a young age. Dipak has completed the CSC and the CFA Level 1 exam is expecting to graduate with a Bachelors of Commerce in Finance with a Minor in Economics from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. Furthermore, Dipak has extensive experience competing in case competitions such as: Strategic Leadership Case competition; Global Investment Research Competition (held by the CFA Institute); Investment Banking Case Competition, and is currently representing UBC for the ICBC (Finance) Case competition. Dipak will lead the execution of the UBC Finance Club Investment Banking Case Competition and envisions it to become Canada’s premier finance case competition by focusing on shaping the competition in a true to life context.


Director of Documentation
Eric Li
Eric Li is a finance major in his last year at the Sauder School of Business. He is interested in corporate finance, especially for SME business. Eric wishes to help the UBC Finance Club achieve operation efficiency by running the documentation system. He is happy about working with his talented teammates in the Finance Club to give all the members memorable experience throughout the year. In his spare time Eric likes touring historical sites and increasing his capacity as a novice chef.

Melissa Jang
Mel is a third year Commerce student with an interest in marketing and management information systems. This is her first year with the UBC Finance Club and she is excited to meet all of you through the promotion of club events. She can often be found on the tennis court, in DLam, or at the local sushi bar.


Director of Networking
Jackson Ng
Jackson is a 2nd year commerce student with an interest in Finance and Entrepreneurship. As a 2nd year rep, he keeps his peers updated about upcoming events while working with other execs to plan, promote and coordinate them. He joined the Finance Club to gain exposure and to learn more about the financial industry. In his spare time, he enjoys making short films, cooking up a new recipe and spending time with friends.

Ralph Yang
Ralph is a 2nd year BComm student and is also pursuing a minor in economics. He is very interested in the field of finance and as such, is very excited to reach other students with the same passion through the BC stock competition challenge. He believes that participation in the Finance Club is a great investment as it yields high returns in terms of learning experiences. He spends most of his free time playing computer games, golfing, swimming, and hanging out with friends. Ralph is truly excited for the upcoming finance club and what it can offer.

Jayden Jiang
Jayden is a 1st year Sauder student at UBC, who is planning to major in Finance, and double option in International Business. He believes that the UBC Finance Club is a great opportunity to learn, explore and gain hands-on experience in the finance industry. As a 1st Year Representative, Jayden hopes to encourage new UBC students to participate in this commerce-orientated club, where they can earn knowledge about different careers, and expand their professional network, through social events, competitions and conferences. In his spare time, Jayden enjoys doing kickboxing, playing basketball, and having a medium rare steak at the Keg.

Lorentz Rokne
Lorentz is a third year Commerce student currently pursuing a major in Finance. He is born and raised in Norway, and served 1 year in the Royal Norwegian Navy prior to joining The Sauder School of Business. Through his position, Lorentz seeks to help inform his peers about the field of finance and help strengthen the link between the students and the industry professionals. In addition to this, Lorentz feels that the experiences he will gain through his position, will equip him with a skill set that will help him prevail in his future career. Outside of the Finance club, Lorentz is a competitor on the JDC West team and looks forward to representing his University in Prince George this coming January. In his spare time, Lorentz is an active member in his fraternity and enjoys playing competitive soccer, skiing and hanging out with his friends.

Tom Hu
Yang (Tom) Hu is a 2nd year student at UBC who hopes to pursue a career in either finance or marketing. By Joining the UCFC, he aspires to gain more knowledge about the corporate financial world and meet others who share his passion. Since he was young, Tom has developed a strong interest in researching about both cars and the cars market, and enjoys driving as well. With the Financial Awareness Program, he hopes to gain some experience in event execution and planning, while at the same time helping the local high school students of Vancouver.
