Jennifer Ngai, Co-President
Jennifer Ngai is a fourth year Accounting Co-op student pursuing a Chartered Accountant designation. Upon graduation, she hopes to gain industry experience in risk management and project management in the banking and insurance industries. Her interest in the finance industry comes from her belief that knowledge in fund management is vital to everyone who, ironically, do not want to have to be worried about money. Outside of school, Jennifer tutors mathematics and delivers workshops on educating youth entrepreneurship, workforce preparedness, and financial coaching. Jennifer loves meeting new people, immersing in a good book, traveling, watching hockey games, and trying out new restaurants.
Jessica Zhang, Co-President
Having lived in China for ten years, Jessica highly values having a global perspective in today’s business world. She is in her fourth year specializing in Finance and International Business, and has recently completed the Canadian Securities Course. This is her second year with UBC Finance Club and she is thrilled to be part of a remarkable team. With her experience as a Summer Intern – Institutional Clients Group at Global Markets in Citi and Summer Analyst – Financial Services at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, she is confident her creativity, communication skills, and dedication will bring every student the opportunity to participate in all the club has to offer. Jessica recreationally plays the piano and volleyball, and enjoys reading fashion magazines in her spare time.
Jackie Au, Vice-President Finance
A third year student at the Sauder School of Business, Jackie is currently pursuing a major in Finance supplemented by a minor in Mathematics. This past summer, he was involved with Global Securities an an Equity Analyst. His strong mathematical background has earned him multiple awards and recognition in national competitions. He endeavours to employ his extensive experience in the consumer retail sector to not only broaden horizons for the UBC Finance Club, but also to reach out to the community and garner interest for the field. In his spare time, Jackie enjoys a relaxing swim at the pool.
Brenden Lee, Director of Corporate Relations
Brenden is a third year Sauder School of Business’s student specializing in Finance and Entrepreneurship, which compliment his interest in M&A and IPOs. For the past two years, he has managed a full time career with school and plans to apply this strong work ethic to help meet the ambitious goals of the UBC Finance Club. Brenden is a proven leader who embraces diversity to showcase talent. Outside of school, he is active in Vancouver’s growing tech startup scene.
David Huynh, Director of Corporate Relations
Julie Shin, Director of Corporate Relations
Julie is currently in her third year of Commerce specializing in Finance and Economics and is thrilled to join this dynamic team for a consecutive year. Julie, having built invaluable relationships in the club as an executive last year, wants to further enhance the quality of the club this year by embarking on external duties as the Director of Corporate Relations. After realizing the students’ lack of exposure to the full aspects of the UBC Finance Club, Julie wishes to introduce the holistic picture by emphasizing on the amazing events and opportunities that the club entails. During her spare time, Julie enjoys watching movies and venturing out to exotic restaurants with friends.
Albert Ateng, Director of Marketing
Albert is a fourth year Accounting student and Commerce Scholar. He is very thrilled to bring the very best UBC Finance Club experience to all of our stakeholders by elevating the team’s creativity to a whole new level. Albert has been involved as an executive in over fifteen organizations throughout his time at university and was named the Runner Up for Top Service Award by the Commerce Undergraduate Society in 2011. Previously serving as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst at Rothschild, Albert will be joining Talisman Energy in Calgary following graduation.
William Zeng, Creative Director
William is a second year commerce student at the Sauder School of Business. His growing interest for finance stemmed from his participation in the Western Canada Portfolio Management Competition. He is extremely excited to act upon this newfound enthusiasm by joining the remarkable executive team as the Creative Director. William looks forward to applying his creative thinking, communication skills, disciplined work ethic, and natural aptitude for learning to contribute to the club’s existing excellence. Through his involvement, William expects to gain invaluable insight into the business world of finance that is inaccessible in classrooms and maximize his potentials as a learner. In addition to being a recipient of multiple academic scholarships, William believes it is vital to expand his education outward through avid community involvements such as relevant volunteer and work experience. In his free time, William enjoys portrait sketching, singing jazz, reading philosophy, swimming, and travelling.
Mandy Chow, Director of Administration
Marie Li, Director of Communication
Marie is currently a fourth year Finance student finishing off her degree with a minor in Mathematics. This is the third year she has been with UBC Finance Club. Marie has passed the CFA level one exam and is aiming for passing the level two exam this June. During her spare time, Marie enjoys cooking and improvising on the piano. Marie interned at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong this past summer and will start full-time with the firm upon graduation.
Inee Yan, Director of Academic Relations
Inee is a second year Sauder School of Business’ student with a passion for learning and exploring new fields. She comes to the UBC Finance Club bringing with her experience in establishing various students groups, and volunteering with organizations such as Amnesty International, Kids Help Phone, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. With her strong interpersonal skills, she aims to expand the club’s membership base to new heights by recruiting university students from diverse backgrounds and interests. She is in charge of the Financial Awareness Program, and seeks to spark an interest in finance for Metro Vancouver secondary students. In her spare time, Inee enjoys playing the piano, writing music, and the occassional shopping spree.
Thea Simpson, Director of Events: Informational
Thea is a second year Commerce student with a strong interest in finance. She is proud to be joining the UBC Finance Club executive team after attending many of the club’s events last year. As a student whose interest in finance was cultivated at university, Thea hopes to encourage Sauder School of Business’ students to attend a speaker series presentation or drop by a networking session as it may spark an unrealized interest. She is very excited to get the opportunity to organize some of these events in the coming year, and to help influence the experience of fellow students. Personally, she plans to further her own knowledge about the technical aspects of finance and increase her experience working with finance professionals – and to learn from the rest of the club executives along the way. In her spare time, Thea enjoys traveling, reading and watching a good movie.
Jocelyn Li, Director of Events: Networking
As a second year student, Jocelyn is curious and excited to learn more about the business world and finance. Through her involvement with the club, she hopes go beyond textbooks and explore what finance really involves and how it relates to other areas of business while encouraging other students to do the same. Jocelyn will bring her communication and organizational skills to the team, supporting and helping create informative and enjoyable events. She is also a passionate and enthused volunteer; working with organizations like St. John Ambulance Youth Brigade, Langara Family YMCA and SOS Children’s Village. Outside of school, she also enjoys playing volleyball, baking, and traveling.

Kenneth is currently a third year Commerce student pursuing a specialization in Finance. He is excited to be representing one of UBC’s most renowned clubs and to be a part of this remarkable executive team. He is looking forward to facilitating and attending all the upcoming UBC Finance Club events in order to extend his knowledge, develop his soft skills, and expand his network, while encouraging other students to do the same. Besides finance and economics, Kenneth is also interested in jazz music, ballroom dancing and food. He wants to get to know you and see you at every event. Kristy Kutev, Third Year Representative
National Investment Banking Competition and Conference
David Lam, Chairperson
David is a fourth year Finance Co-op student at the Sauder School of Business. He has accumulated over 5 years of sales experience through working in the retail and wholesale industry, and is also a certified Provincial Volleyball Official for over 6 years. David is also an active volunteer for Atira Women’s Resource Society, a community-based organization that supports women and their children who are impacted by violence. As a delegate of the first National Investment Banking Competition and Conference back in 2010, David understands and appreciates the benefits and opportunities that this event can provide for students. He will strive to maximize the experience of this year’s participants.
Sara Keng, Director of Competition
Sara is going into her fourth year at the Sauder School of Business and is pursuing a double specialization in Finance and Marketing as well as a minor in Economics. Her passion for finance was driven by her upbringing in Singapore, a major Financial hub in Asia, and her experience at KPMG Corporate Finance, where she worked for the firm’s M&A department. She finds the industry challenging and exciting – elements which she thrives on. She is currently pursuing her CFA level one as well. Sara, finding last year’s student case development team to be particularly enriching, is excited to be taking on a bigger role as the Competition Director. She hopes to replicate the success of last year’s event. Sara also used to play judo and tennis competitively, and currently enjoys cooking and travelling in her sparetime.
Vina Yiu, Competition Coordinator
Vina is a fourth year Finance student at the Sauder School of Business. During her time at Sauder, Vina has been involved in the 2011 and 2012 JDC West Case Competition on the finance team and served as Chairperson for the Collegiate Sports Business Conference. She recently completed a summer work term at Morgan Stanley as a Sales and Trading Analyst, and will be joining Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Calgary upon graduation.
Andra Bosneaga, Director of Conference
Andra Bosneaga is a fourth year Finance student at the Sauder School of Business. Throughout her time at Sauder, she has been heavily involved within the Commerce Undergraduate Society taking on various roles within Enterprize Canada, Me Inc, and the Campus Ambassador Program, receiving the CUS Silver Service Award. Outside of school, Andra has spent the majority of her life as both a competitive and professional figure skater and later went on to coach multiple kids learn to skate programs. Andra will be joining CIBC World Markets as an Investment Banking Analyst in Toronto upon graduation.
Jasmin Kirk, Conference Coordinator
Jasmin is a first year student at the Sauder School of Business. Having attended an international school in the financial hub of Hong Kong, she has been captured by the workings of financial markets from a young age. While completing the International Baccalaureate, Jasmin was the President of the Model United Nations Team at her school and acted as the Chairwoman of the Global Young Leaders Conference in the United Nations, New York. Moving to North America for the first time this September, she is excited to learn about the dynamics of the investment banking industry in Vancouver and to give other students the same opportunity through this year’s NIBC.
Martin Haakonsen, Director of Marketing
Martin is a fourth year Finance student at the Sauder School of Business. Prior to moving to Canada, Martin was a competitive alpine skier and coach for the Norwegian Ski Federation. Martin has worked as a Program Leader for the International Student Energy Summit, where he was responsible for developing the Markets & Regulation section of the conference. During the summer of 2011, Martin worked as an Investment Banking Analyst for TD Securities in Vancouver, where he will start full-time after graduation in 2012. As a member of the NIBC Organizing Team, Martin wants to help students become more competitive when seeking employment in the investment banking industry by providing a competition and conference that is unprecedented in North America.
Terence Kwan, Marketing Coordinator
Terence is a fourth year undergraduate Commerce student specializing in Finance at the Sauder School of Business. He currently works for Canaccord Genuity in their Equity Research department and has always had an interest in capital markets and investment banking. Prior to joining the team as a Marketing Coordinator, Terence was a delegate at competitor at the second National Investment Banking Competition & Conference. On his spare time, Terence likes to golf, compose music, and learn to DJ. He plans to try his best to make this year’s competition and conference even more spectacular!
Carl Stange, Marketing Coordinator
Carl is a fourth year Finance student at the Sauder School of Business. Prior to moving to Canada, Carl competed in various sports, most notably handball, snowboarding and golf. Although not actively competing anymore Carl has retained a keen interest in a number of these sports through out his university experience. He was also an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization devoted to building affordable housing. Having interned at Morgan Stanley in London as a Sales and Trading Analyst and at two different consulting firms in Norway, Carl is contemplating whether to pursue a career in Europe or North America.
Charles Wong, Creative Director
Charles is a second year student at the Sauder School of Business intending to major in Finance and minor in Economics. He was a member of the team that won 1st Place in the Venture Capital and Private Equity Competition in 2011. Charles is currently a Financial Analyst for the UBC Commerce Undergraduate Society Finance Commission; and was also the Executive Director of Creative Services of the Bid Committee that helped win the bid to host the 21st Harvard WorldMUN at Vancouver in 2012. In his spare time, Charles plays badminton and enjoys two-dimensional graphic design. Having delegated at the conference last year and acknowledges the advantages it entails, he wants to help students capitalize on this learning opportunity by opening doors to the industry.
Pacific Venture Capital Competition
Valeriya Yonova, Chairperson
Valeriya is a third year student at the Sauder School of Business, pursuing a double major in International Business and Economics. Born and raised in Bulgaria, she studied in London and Vienna, where she successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and various education projects organized by the European Commission. She has been actively involved in the Commerce Undergraduate Society acting as the Vice-President of the International Student Association and Director of Alumni Relations. Recently, Valeriya was a Financial Analyst at a major eastern European chemical company where she worked on large scale international projects. Her most recent achievement was representing Canada at the annual Women in Business Conference at Harvard University. As the Pacific Venture Capital Competition’s Chairperson, Valeriya would like to maximize the experience of this year’s participants, providing them with a unique chance to connect with top professionals from the Canadian Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship industry.
Natalie Zhang, Vice-Chairperson
Natalie is a second year student at the Sauder School of Business interested in pursuing a Law degree following her graduation. Currently, she is wanting to learn more about Finance. After participating in the Pacific Venture Capital Competition last year as a contestant on the Entrepreneurship team, she is extremely excited to join the PVCC 2012 organizing committee as the Vice Chair to help better serve the participants. She was the Chairperson for UBC Business Week and is currently interning at Investors Group in Financial Advisory. Natalie previously played the violin competitively but now enjoys performing during her spare time.
Anu Enebat, Director of Competition
Anu is a highly motivated third year Finance Co-op student at the Sauder School of Business. Her keen interest in Finance is developed through attending events organized by UBC Finance Club. Anu is strongly interested in Capital Markets, Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship. She interned as a Summer Equity Research Analyst at Global Securities Corporation past summer and currently works as a Finance Assistant at the Child and Family Research Institute at the University of British Columbia. As community involvement is something Anu feels is integral to her, she volunteered with many non-profit organizations. In her spare time Anu enjoys travelling, reading nonfiction and playing basketball.
Ilia Nizker, Director of Conference
Ilia is a fourth year undergraduate Commerce student majoring in Finance. Intrigued by the workings of financial markets since a young age, Ilia currently works as an Investment Advisor Associate at RBC Dominion Securities. He was a delegate and competitor at the third National Investment Banking Competition & Conference, where his team finished second. Ilia enjoyed working with PVCC’s Corporate Relations team last year, and hopes to use his knowledge and industry contacts to maximize the participants’ experience at this year’s event. In his spare time Ilia plays the piano, practices Korean Hapkido, and enjoys reading business literature as well as acclaimed fiction.
Patrick Chan, Director of Events
Patrick is a third year at the Sauder School of Business specializing in Accounting and also doing a minor in Mathematics while pursuing a career as either an Accountant or Actuary. He was previously the VP Finance for UBC Business Week and wanted to learn more about the venture capital market. In his spare time, he enjoys playing badminton, watching movies and sleeping in during holidays.
Abdulaziz Altayar, Director of Marketing
Aziz is a third year Bachelor of Arts student who moved from Saudi Arabia to Vancouver to pursue his dreams of working in the financial industry. His passion for finance and stock markets started early on in his life when he used to save allowance money to invest in high-dividend stocks. Through his involvement with the UBC Finance Club, Aziz hopes to learn more about the financial industry and the potential career paths it offers. Besides school’s work, Aziz plays soccer competitively and enjoys experimental cooking and chess.
Robin Fan, Corporate Relations
Robin Fan is a first year student at the Sauder School of Business intending to pursue Finance. Exposed early to the blossoming business environment in China, Robin is drawn to the dynamics of the financial industry and the impact it can have. Robin hopes to bring an unparalleled experience to the participants of the Pacific Venture Capital Competition. While attending high-school in Vancouver, he worked with the Vancouver School Board on District Students’ Council. In his spare time, Robin enjoys snowboarding, playing the piano, and training for marathons.
